A Diary For A Backpacker | New Blog Tips

Backpacking is a great way to escape the rat race and be one with nature. Alas, your backpacking experiences can fade with time. Why not make a record of your backpacking travels for posterity?

A Backpacker?s Diary

Think back of the last time you strapped on your backpack and went hiking and camping. What are your most vivid recollections? Go back farther in your backpacking days. What are the places that you have explored, the breathtaking vistas, the occurrences, and the faces that are still etched in your memory? Most are probably buried in the sands of time. If you had kept a backpacking journal, this won?t be the case.

There are famous instances of people keeping journals throughout time. Anne Frank?s diary is perhaps the most known and read since its discovery. The diary chronicles Anne?s life for a period of two years while in hiding from Nazi persecution. The point of keeping a journal is to make permanent noteworthy events and experiences that would otherwise be lost and forgotten with the passage of time.

The features and qualities of a backpacking diary are enumerated below. It must be small enough not to take too much of the valuable space in your backpack. Keep it in a protective covering to avoid water damage, stains and scratches. Next, there should be sufficient blank spaces for writing. Last, make a list of subjects that you must keep a record of which should serve as your reference. The subjects of interest are:

The persons in your group,

The places you went to and your observations,

The people you made contact with and the details,

The geography and the climate at that time of the year,

The routes and trails you followed and what was ahead,

Rare sightings of flora and fauna.

Your journal must have ample and detailed information about:

Details about personages directly or otherwise involved,

Enough detail to provide you or a friend with a guide if you backpack the location a second time.

Memories to reflect upon years later, and

A narrative of your exploits for the following generations.

Write your accounts while the events are still fresh in your mind, on the trail or soon after. Each backpacking is a unique experience that you should write about.

Being outdoors will allow you to enjoy the wonders of nature. You owe it to yourself to keep a written account.
